A country of men without hats

Random thought and picture of the day. I have a great picture of a home run from the 1939 World Series in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees swept the Cincinnati Reds four games to none. But I really just love this picture. Every time I look at it, it takes me back to a much simpler time. When men wore hats everywhere- and not baseball caps, but the real fedoras, or pork pie hats, or what we now call the Panama hat. Most of these fans also wore their suits to the game. I think it would have been so interesting to live in the roaring twenties and the 1930s.
It makes me wonder if fifty or sixty years from now, people will be looking at old pictures and thinking how interesting it would have been to have grown up in the 1980s. “Wow, grandpa, you mean you can remember a time before every house had computers? That must have been crazy! What did you do for fun? How did you get your information? You mean, you used to have to read the news in big folding sheets of paper?”
So here’s what I challenge myself to do. Figure out what it is that is cool about the era in which we live, and take advantage of it. Enjoy it now. I would have loved to have gone to a baseball game in Yankee Stadium wearing a suit and fedora. I guess I still could today, but I would look like a moron. What are people going to long for when they look back at the 2000s fifty or sixty years from now?
